Sanctified: Chapter 17- I’m Not Dead (Part 6)

Swords, teeth, claws clash, whooping as in their
Monster bash. Three more creatures busted
Into the motel room, no match for
The bedlam Sedequa and Fosco
Conjured with their reunion showdown.
Heads, limbs, guts, and green good painted the
Room when the siblings finished the last
Creature. Dustin and Sue were banged up
But alive. “She’d go to the end of
The earth for you,” Dustin said. “So work
Out your shit,” Sue added, as she pulled
Dustin out of the room. Covered in
Green slime and entrails, Sedequa and
Fosco stood in silence for ions,
Opening his mouth in slow motion.
“I killed Adam,” Sedequa confessed,
“I didn’t know what else to do but run.”
“Did he hurt you?” Fosco asked. She looked
At her feet and said, “He sure tried to.
I should’ve stayed and testified for you.
I’m sorry for making you hate me.”
Fosco threw his arms around her, tight.
“I never hated you,” Fosco said.
He wiped his eyes and collapsed onto
The bed. Sedequa joined him, wrapped her
Arms around him, and never let go.

Sanctified: Chapter 17- I’m Not Dead (Part 5)

Sedequa jumped to her feet and stomped
On the needle-fingered beast daru=ing
It to try and get back up. She kicked
Up her sword and sliced one of its
Arms clean off. It screeched then managed to
Swipe Sedequa across the room with
Its other arm. She dropped her sword and
Landed on the bed. The other two
Monsters joined their needle-fingered friend
And surrounded Sedequa, tongues and
Teeth slobbering for a taste of her.
She pushed herself back against the wall,
Refusing to close her eyes and shrink
Back to Oblivion; she’d never
Give anything that satisfaction.
The beasts drooled and grimaced over her.
She raised her chin and said, “Come get me.”
The beast missing two heads began its
Strike only to squeal as Fosco rammed
His tooth-dagger through its back; it oozed
Green blood and plopped to the floor—sizzle.
“You didn’t think I’d miss this,” Fosco winked.
Sedequa’s face detonated like
Fourth of July and new years, grinning.
Sh kicked the best on her right, grabbed her
Sword, and joined her brother in battle.

Sanctified: Chapter 16- I’m Not Dead (Part 4)

For a split second Sedequa blinked
And let her mind fall into utter
Oblivion. She could not see her
Future and the guilt she harbored for
The last six years washed away into
The mythos of creatures beyond time,
Beyond civilization, beyond
Regret and betrayal as the tall
Needle-fingered monster roared and screeched
Above her, starving for her flesh and
Bone. Sedequa caught a glimpse of peace,
And it made her esophagus burn.
She did not regret killing Adam;
She felt no guilt for smashing his head
In after he tried to strangle her.
She would gladly do it again. That
Bastard framed her brother, then tried to
Kill her before she could testify.
She had to get rid of the body,
She had to go on the run. No one
Knew the truth, the only regret she
Held onto was leaving her brother
Without help, without answers, without
Hope. Sedequa would be damned if she
Left the Earth before seeing Fosco
So she kicked the beast in the groin—rage.

Sanctified: Chapter 17- I’m Not Dead (Part 3)

A needle-fingered monster bust through
The window and tackled Sedequa
To the floor. The monster was quickly
Joined by three other creatures. Sue pulled
Out one of her pistols and went to
Town on two of them. Dustin squeezed his
New stinger-blade and rushed the third beast;
It had four heads, each in the shape of
A different wild animal, a
Jackal, a snake, a lion, and a
Tiger. Each one more vicious and starved
For flesh. Sedequa struggled to get
To her feet. She covered her face with
Her arms as the needle-fingered one
Slashed and thrashed above her. Sue emptied
Her pistol into one beast before
Its friend slammed her through the closet door.
Dustin managed to slice off two of
The four-headed beast’s heads, his stinger
And his face dripping in green blood. The two
Heads that were left roared and the monster
Kicked Dustin in the chest and went full-
On rampage mode around the room. Their
Calm oasis taken over in
Mere moments, just like six years prior
When Sedequa’s life first exploded.

Sanctified: Chapter 17- I’m Not Dead (Part 2)

The motel sat silent and untouched
Maybe they were blessed and the evils
Of the past were banished from that place,
Unable to touch them as soon as
They cross into its pull. The air felt
Different, calm, safer. Or maybe
It was the tension of finally
Arriving at their destination.
“The dining room is the safest place,”
Sedequa suggested, “The kitchen
Should still be stocked, even on the off
Season, mom always kept canned foods that
She could do wonders with; nobody
Could tell the difference.” Sedequa turned
Toward the left end of the small lot.
Sue and Dustin followed in silence.
The sun began setting as they walked
To room 302. Sedequa took
A long , soft breath before twisting the
Doorknob and pushing it open. A
Sweet gust of wind brushed over her as
She stepped into the empty room. Sue
Closed the door behind her and said, “was
This his room?” Sedequa’s eyes darted
To the ceiling and she nodded. She
Walked to the window as glass shattered.

Sanctified: Chapter 17- I’m Not Dead (Part 1)

“You didn’t have to come back for me.” The
Words seemed as mythological as
The monsters that turned from statues of
Ancient times and myths into flesh and
Bone. They dripped from Dustin’s cracked lips like
Tall tales, meant to tap into wicked
Realities and questionable
Moral lessons. “Of course the hell I
Did,” Sedequa relied, “We’re in this
Together.” Awkward introductions
And half-promises of safety filled
The air as Sedequa led Sue,
Dustin, and the four hostages through
The Portland wilderness, searching
For and hoping to men the past so
That the future would be worth fighting
For. “What makes you so sure that your big
Brother will be there when we get to
Their place?” One of the hostages asked.
“I don’t know, Pat, its psychic
Intuition or maybe it’s the
Same damn thing that caused me to bust through
A window in the middle of a
Monster invasion to save your ass,”
Sedequa snapped. Pat apologized.
They all froze as the motel appeared.

Sanctified: Chapter 16- Beasties + Baddies (Part 4)

Goodbye kisses and champagne marked their
Last night together. Adam had caused a
Big scene by the motel pool, screaming at
Virgil, but he was not the type to
Back down and when he responded with
His fists against Adam’s cheeks and chin,
Fosco leaped up and knocked his ass down.
A dozen guests and staff witnessed and
Heard Fosco yell, “Touch him again and
I’ll kill you.” He played right into that
Evil bitches plan like a hawt damn
Sock puppet. He woke the next morning
Covered in blood, the Popo banging
On his door, and Adam vanished in
Thin air. Virgil dead, Fosco framed. It
Devastated him but Sedequa
Was his saving grace, she saw Adam
Carrying a large dripping bag to
Fosco’s room during the time of the
Murder, but before the trial she
Vanished too. After fourteen months in
Prison, new evidence cleared his name.
His mom and lawyer were the only
People on his side, his support team.
So he didn’t forgive or kill those men
But he did give them a mighty scare.

Sanctified: Chapter 16- Beasties + Baddies (Part 3)

One corny ass line had Fosco vexed.
He spent two wild weeks dancing, drinking,
And screwing his curly-hair brains out,
The most fun he had since before he
Came out to his ad and got kicked out.
Fosco and Sedequa grew up with
Their dad in Grande Ronde; they didn’t move in
With their mom until Sedequa turned
Eighteen, Fosco was twenty when
He finally tracked down Melita.
They worked at her motel trying to
Reconnect with their mother, slow work.
Adam must have seen how lost Fosco
Felt, like he was watching a drive-in
Movie and his radio was tuned
All the way up to max. Fosco could
Never forget the night he let that
Bitch catch his ass slipping; caught up.
“I’ll never let anyone hurt you,”
Adam whispered into Fosco’s ear,
“You’re the only thing making this trip
Worth it. I can’t stand Virgil; he’s just
Like out dad, vicious and controlling.”
Fosco wanted to protect his love,
Clueless to the dangerous cost of
Falling for a serial killer.

Sanctified: Chapter 16- Beasties + Baddies (Part 2)

There was something there, in the blond man’s
Eyes, something that Fosco recognized;
Regret and the guilt that comes along
With feeling it, but Fosco didn’t care,
He stopped forgiving and coddling
Stupid white boys years ago, before
He spent a year in prison, before
He let a white boy mess up his life.
It was a hot summer night when he
First fell in love with a guy, Adam
Vushay. He and his older brother Virgil
Stopped at Fosco’s mother’s motel on
Road trip through the Pacific North-
West. His gorgeous brown eyes made Fosco’s
Knees twitch. When he walked into the lobby
Fosco’s throat closed up and he forgot
How to breathe. “One king or two queens?” his
Sister asked as Adam smiled his way.
“Two queens,” he said, biting his lip and
Leaning over the counter; he brushed
His dirty blonde hair out of his face
And said, “You know any cool places
Around here where I can find cute boys
And good music?” Sedequa elbowed
Fosco in the gut. “I know a few.”
“I could use a tour guide,” Adam said.

Sanctified: Chapter 16- Beasties + Baddies (Part 1)

Fosco was not in the mood to deal
With some motorcycle gang hoping
To cash in on the terror of “war”.
“Give us all your weapons,” the blonde man
With the grey pistol demanded. He
Aimed his gun at Fosco as four more
Men crept out of the trees. “You heard him,”
Said a bald man as he walked up to
Fosco and pointed his gun in his face.
“Get yo gun out my face,” Fosco warned.
The man laughed and said, “You gonna make
Me?” His friends laughed and surrounded the
Airport survivors. “Don’t test me,” the
Blonde cautioned, “Its been a long day filled
With apocalyptic gloom. My boys
And I could take you out in a blink.
Make it easy, give us what we want.”
Fosco glared and said, “I got places
To be and people to see, messing
Around with greedy, trash-ass white boys
Ain’t on my schedule for the evening.”
“You got a mouth on you, dontcha, boy,”
Baldy remarked, “how about I cut your tongue.”
He didn’t finish that sentence;
Fosco head-butted him in the nose
The snatched his gun from him. “Try me, bitch.”

Sanctified: Chapter 15- Strangers (Part 4)

Sedequa kicked the slimy monster
In the knee as it dashed straight at her.
She shot one of its long bony hands
And it screeched in terror. One of its
Puppets kicked the gun out of her hand
And punched her in the cheek. He squeezed her
Sword in both hands; she did not like that.
Sedequa swung the long stinger and
Challenged the puppet pretending to
Wield her weapon. He blocked one blow,
Then two. Sedequa spun round and
Slashed the puppet’s calf; he screamed out
And Sedequa kicked him in the chest.
The sword flew across the cabin. Sue
Continued shooting ng until no one
Still stood but her, Sedequa, and the
Monster. Sedequa raced to pick up
The sword. She snatched it up and turned to
The beast. “You ain’t ready for this.” She
Tossed the stinger to Dustin and chopped
The tooth-belly monster down. It swung
Its bony hands over her head and
She sliced it clear off. With her sword
In her possession it stood no chance.
She was covered in green blood with one
Thought on her mind; she was the baddest.

Sanctified: Chapter 15- Strangers (Part 3)

The tiny cabin that held Dustin
Reeked of decay and rotten kitchen
Scraps, as if someone had started a
Compost pile but forgot to add
Paper towels for the carbon half.
Sedequa was shocked and somewhat peeved
That the newly released stone monsters
Managed to gain a human-puppet
Following in only eight hours.
The puppets had five hostages and
One of them sullied Sedequa’s sword
With their filthy cultish hands. “They’re dead,”
Sue whispered, “The ones worshipping the
Monsters.” Sedequa shot her a glare.
“Trust me,” Sue quickly added, “I know.”
They counted eight puppets and one tall,
Slimy beast with long fingers and sharp
Razor-shaped teeth, not in its head; the
Monster’s mouth was in its belly.
It hunched back and roared, its large green eyes
Spotting Sedequa as she burst through
The window, shooting the two puppets
Guarding the door. Sue kicked it down, fast,
Spraying bullets like she was playing
Connect the dots only shooting the
Monster’s servants. No plan, just bullets.
